Kayak group Long Island 2005

Every January for the last seven years, a group of enthusiastic sea kayakers visited Bonaire Dive & Adventure to paddle the beautiful coastal waters of Bonaire. Escaping the cold and snow, Jeff & Debbie Shapiro of The Kayak Centre from Wickford, Rhode Island, their instructor Bill and their guests came to our island for a week or more of warm water paddling, snorkeling, windsurfing and just plain fun. This year they arrived on Bonaire on Jan 22nd. After checking into their rooms at Sand Dollar they started preparing their kayaks on the very next day.

The kayakers could not wait to get in the crystal clear water and after a short skill practice in front of the BD&A pier they started out on their first trip to the beach bar of Plaza Resort and back, just to warm up. This was a distance of only 10 K, a piece of cake for these experienced kayakers. The next few days they did some serious paddling: to Pink Beach (16 K), around Klein Bonaire (12 K), to Playa Frans up north (18 K) and in the secluded passageways of the Lac Bay mangroves.

Unfortunately they had to leave on Jan 29th, but the kayakers took with them very nice memories of a well-spent week on Bonaire. We will be happy to see you again next year guys!
